Whether you want to share an earworm with a friend via text, print a custom sticker for your laptop, or add a musical touch to a creative project, getting a code for a specific Spotify track is remarkably easy.
Spotify actually offers two paths for this: native Spotify Codes (the sleek, soundwave-like visual tags built directly into the app) and traditional QR codes. Here is a complete breakdown of how to generate both for any song.
Method 1: Get a Native Spotify Code on Mobile (Easiest)
If you are using an iPhone or Android device, Spotify allows you to pull up a unique visual code for any track in just a few taps.
- Open the Spotify app and find the song you want to share.
- Tap the three-dot menu icon (…) next to the song title.
- Scroll down the menu and tap Show Spotify Code. A card featuring the song’s album art and a soundwave-like barcode will appear.
- Tap Save to Photos (or screenshot the screen) to save the image directly to your camera roll.
You can now text this image, post it online, or print it out. Anyone scanning it through their Spotify app will instantly land on that exact track.
Method 2: Create a Custom Spotify Code on Desktop
If you want to customize the colors or size of your Spotify Code for a flyer, poster, or merchandise design, you can use Spotify’s official web tool.
- Open Spotify on your computer.
- Locate the song, click the three-dot menu, hover over Share, and select Copy Spotify URI. (Tip: On a Mac, hold the Option key while right-clicking; on Windows, hold the Alt key to reveal the URI option).
- Go to spotifycodes.com in your web browser.
- Paste the copied Spotify URI into the search field and click Get Spotify Code.
- Use the customization panel on the right to change the background color, bar color, and image format (JPEG, PNG, or SVG).
- Click Download to save the file to your computer.
Method 3: Generate a Traditional QR Code
While Spotify Codes only scan within the Spotify application, you might prefer a standard QR code that any smartphone camera can open.
- Go to the song on Spotify, click the three-dot menu, select Share, and click Copy Link (or Copy Song Link).
- Open any reputable online QR code generator (such as ME-QR or The QR Code Generator).
- Paste the song URL into the generator.
- Customize the look of your QR code if desired, then download the final image file.
When scanned with a standard phone camera, this QR code will prompt the user’s phone to open the track directly in their browser or Spotify app.
How to Scan a Spotify Code
If someone hands you a native Spotify Code, scanning it takes just a second:
- Open the Spotify mobile app.
- Tap the Search tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the camera icon in the top-right corner of the search bar.
- Point your camera at the code (or tap “Select from photos” to upload a saved image file), and Spotify will immediately launch the song.
