How to Save a Song to Your Files
Whether you want to set a custom ringtone, edit an audio clip, or keep your favorite tracks accessible offline, saving a song directly to your device’s file manager is a handy skill. Here is how you can do it depending on the device you are using.
On iPhone or iPad (iOS)
If you have an audio file in Safari, an email, or a cloud drive (like iCloud Drive or Google Drive):
- Open the app or web page where the song file is located.
- Tap the Share button (the square icon with an arrow pointing upward).
- Scroll through the share sheet options and select Save to Files.
- Choose the folder where you want to store the song (such as “On My iPhone” or “Downloads”) and tap Save.
You can access the saved song anytime by opening the Files app on your device.
On Android
Android devices make downloading and managing files straightforward:
- Open your web browser or email app and tap on the download link for the song.
- If prompted, confirm that you want to download the file.
- Once the download is complete, open the Files by Google app (or your device’s default file manager).
- Go to the Downloads category or internal storage to find your audio file.
On a Computer (Mac or PC)
For desktop users, saving a song file is usually handled directly through your browser:
- Right-click (or control-click on a Mac) the download link or audio player for the song.
- Select Save Link As… or Download Audio As….
- Choose your Downloads folder or create a dedicated music folder, then click Save.
Once saved, you can play the song using your computer’s default media player or drag it into editing software.
